Room 6 - Mrs Vrena Joyce / Mrs Anne Bell
Mrs Vrena Joyce and Mrs Anne Bell
We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and feel refreshed and ready for a busy exciting term. This term we are getting to know our class members and creating a supportive learning environment for everyone.
Our focuses will be:
Children will be reading daily in guided groups and independently. We will be focussing on their understanding of the story and word meanings. Every night students will bring a reader home in their book bags to read to an adult. Shared Book and Poem reading will be a whole class activity with various follow up tasks.
The children will be focussing on recording their personal experiences, adding interesting words and ensuring what we write makes sense so the reader is able to create a picture in their head of what the story is about.
We have individually grouped children for the “Number” Strand to match their learning needs. Statistics will be taught as a whole group on Fridays.
We will be looking at short vowels and recording their sounds. We will continue to use our new phonic patterns in fun dictated sentences to reinforce the new learning and help commit the patterns to their long term memory. This helps with when reading words and spelling words.
Our focus this term will be looking at correct pencil grip, formation and size. Please remind your child if you see them not using the correct pencil grip at home.
The whole school will be involved in a Social Science Inquiry entitled “Our Place: Our School”. The Junior Syndicate will be focusing on “Our School Community” and what makes it special. Students will learn how Te Rapa School began and develop their knowledge of the significant people and events of the past have helped shape this school into a unique and special place of learning it is today.
We will be swimming each day. Please make sure that togs and a towel come to school each day. If a student is unable to swim, a note needs to be provided. Thank you.
We will focus on logging on and off the computers independently. We will use the programmes “Paint” and “Kidspiration” to complete work linking to our Inquiry “Our School Our Place”.
Respect is our school wide focus for the first 5 weeks of this term and then Responsibility will be the focus for the second half of the term.
