Room 10 - Mrs Sarah Shearer

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that you have had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the many sun filled days. It was great to see so many supportive parents at Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences at the end of last term. I continue to look forward to working with you to help your child/ren achieve to the best of their potential.


·         ENGLISH: Guided and Shared Reading; Handwriting/Writing skills and Report Writing, Individual Spelling Programmes

·         MATHEMATICS: Multiplication and Division, Geometry and Measurement

·         I.C.T.: Word Processing Skills using a range of programmes, using search engines to Google, find and validate information (to ensure it is accurate)

·         CITIZENSHIP: Excellence and Honesty

·         THINKING SKILLS: Thinker’s Keys – Prediction, What if…?, Recap on the Brainstorm, Question and Alphabet Keys

·         INQUIRY: Science – Evolution and Change – living world, grouping and classifying animals, then looking back to Permian Animals (Life Before the Dinosaurs), learning about adaptations over the years, extinctions and some possible reasons why

·         PE & HEALTH: Working towards the Strictly Jump Jam Syndicate Competition, Ball Skills

·         ARTS : Auditions for Year 3/4 Production Dance Groups with minor speaking roles (Children possibly begin to learn their dance in preparation for Term 3’s Production, individual class arts programmes

·         MAORI: Kapahaka (if they are in this group) or Maori (Maori – Greetings/Farewells, Mihi, Colours, Animals)


  • Year 3/4 Mathletics Assembly – Friday 5th May, 1.45-2.45pm. Children who received a Silver and/or Gold Certificate will be awarded at this assembly. Top individual achievers will also be acknowledged as well as top achieving classes.
  • Hockey, Netball, Miniball – practices and games start this week. Make sure children come to school with what they need on their practice days.
  • Spelling Bee – Weeks 1-4 (More information to come)
  • Mothers’ Day – Sunday 14th May
  • Year 3/4  Poetry Recital Finals (More information is to come soon)
  • Full School Assembly – Friday 2nd June, 9.15am
  • Queen’s Birthday Weekend – 3rd -5th June  (No school on the Monday!)
  • Permian Monsters – Waikato Museum Trip (Ensure your child has footwear and a packed lunch this day – no lunch orders. More details to come soon)
  • Tough Girl/Guy Challenge for selected Year 4 students –Thursday 8th June
  • PTA Mad Hair Day – Friday 9th June
  • 40 Hour Famine – Weekend 9th -11th  June (More information to come)
  • Whanau Hui Meeting – Wednesday 21st June (7pm – Staff Lounge)
  • Year 3/4 Strictly Jump Jam Competition Finals – 1.45pm in our MPR.
  • Full School Assembly – Friday 7th July, 9.15am
  • Reports Go Home/Last Day Term 2 – Friday 7th July
